Having worked on the large Hayward Gallery show Perspectives in 1977, Deke and David (Curtis) then in 1978, proposed the Arts Council / British Council touring show, ‘A Perspective, ’ which was to be British/English work only. The British Council bought prints from the artists (in a uk first) and offered the programme as a world wide tour. to the USA and Australia; following the visit to Canberra, the Australian federal capital, the National library of Australia purchased the entire collection for its national lending service. The British Council thereafter purchased replacement prints from the filmmakers.including my own Shepherd’Bush, which was still being screened when I migrated to Australia in 1988.
NB. nearly the ‘same’ title, different shows….
Perspectives /A Perspective. “History will never forgive Deke and Dave Curtis for allowing this confusion. We knew it would lead to trouble and we persisted.. unable to come up with a better title” DC 2025). ‘
